| The telephone line is the link through
which all else on the Net reaches you and can often be the reason for
dropped lines and slow or variable speeds. For that reason it is a Good
Idea to have your line checked. The telephone company will probably
tell you that they can't guarantee the high data rates expected of modems,
but they should still check your line and may well be able to implement
some improvements.
Also take a look at section 4.1 of the demon.tech.modems FAQ for further advice: http://www.pierrot.co.uk/faq/dtm-faq.txt However, first check that problems are not caused by faulty equipment in your own house by unplugging all telephones, fax machines, etc., and connecting the modem straight to the master socket with as short a cable as possible. |
