8.2   What is PGP?

Although it is highly unlikely that others will read your mail as it passes over the Net, it is wise to assume that this could happen. Pretty Good Privacy is a way of encrypting messages so they can be read only by people for whom they are intended.

PGP can also be used to apply a digital signature to a message without encrypting it - PGP then enables others to confirm that the message actually came from you and hasn't been modified by anyone else.

To find out more go to the International PGP site at: http://www.pgpi.org/

For PGP-related files, look at ftp://ftp.demon.co.uk/pub/pgp

Turnpike includes extensive support for PGP, as well as PGP itself, from Turnpike version 5 onwards.
