| If you wish to arrange for your system to dial-up
automatically, perhaps while you are asleep or away on holiday, first be aware that Demon do
not recommend unattended connections. If anything goes wrong and the telephone
line fails to get dropped you could end up with a very large telephone bill for staying
connected for many hours on end, perhaps even at peak rates. No one but yourself will be
responsible if this happens, so it is essential to thoroughly test any system you decide
to use and take any extra precautions you feel are necessary (such as putting a
time-switch on the power supply of an external modem to ensure that it cuts out).
You may be able to use a standard scheduling program to trigger your
dial-up software at the times you want. Turnpike includes
an ‘auto-dial’ facility that enables it to be used with
automatic scheduling software.
