1.6   Help! Why has it all suddenly stopped working?

If you find that your normal connection suddenly no longer works, check the following:
  1. If you can actually log on to Demon, check the Message Of The Day, which is displayed before the "HELLO" message, to see if there is a warning of serious problems. Turnpike users can see this MOTD in the Connect to the Internet screen or by using the Log facility.
  2. If the problem relates to one particular service, such as no news arriving, finger report@gate.demon.co.uk to see the current status of Demon's main services (but don't expect to see a message there the instant a problem crops up).
  3. If you cannot even log on to your usual number, try one of Demon's alternative numbers to see if that is also affected.
  4. Or you can ring the freephone number 0800 027 0384 to hear a regularly updated recorded message about any current problems.

Alternatively, have a cup of tea and try again later. Do not start reinstalling your software or altering its settings. If your problem persists, ring the Helpdesk (0845 272 2444) where you may hear a recorded announcement if there is a general problem at Demon.

It is also possible that Demon may have made a permanent change to their service that has affected you, or are carrying out planned maintenance. Such things are always publicised well in advance in demon.announce, so make sure you subscribe to this newsgroup.

If a fault seems to occur on a particular number and is apparently not acknowledged by the systems mentioned above, you can report the problem to Demon by filling in the web form at:
