| If mail that you send cannot be delivered, you will get
a warning that further attempts are being made to deliver it. If these fail, then the mail
will be 'bounced' back to you. One of the most common reasons for this is mistyping the
address. The postman can spot that Avenu should be Avenue, but robots need precision. So jane@interact.providor.com
will not receive mail addressed to jane@intaract.providor.com
Other reasons for undelivered mail include accounts that have been closed down (common for students at the end of the academic year) and machines that are off-line for maintenance (in this case the automatic attempts to re-deliver the mail later should meet with success). If you are still unsure why mail was not delivered and you decide to ask either helpdesk@demon.net or in a newsgroup, be sure to include the headers of the returned mail. Without the information contained in them, it will be impossible for anyone to guess the reasons. |
