| Web Phone
requires the users to have a sound card, with speakers and microphone,
and to be using the same Web phone software. With this combination you
can talk over the Net to someone on the other side of the world at your
normal telephone call rate to Demon. If you have a half duplex card,
the two participants must take it in turns to talk (get used to saying
"Over!") - a full duplex card will work like a normal phone,
although the quality is not as good.
You may see references to "VoIP" (Voice over IP) telephony: the
sending of voice calls over the Internet using either a software or
a hardware telephone. For information on this, see: http://www.voip.org.uk/
